Inspiring Conversations with Leanne Shub of Nourish to Flourish Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leanne Shub.

Leanne, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?

I knew I wanted to be a therapist in elementary school. I did a lot of volunteer work from a young age and found that when I was helping others, I felt connected to something greater than myself. I ended up needing a therapist to address my own challenges with anxiety and it was in the relationship with my therapist where I just knew in my innermost self that this was my purpose in life. After graduate school, I felt something was missing. I had learned all about how to help a client explore themselves through various talk therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy but it just didn’t feel like enough to me. I knew from my own healing journey that talking about my challenges only got me so far and that despite all the talking, I still felt this uneasiness in my body that I couldn’t explain in words. So, naturally I left society for a bit and lived in an ashram as one would. I studied to become a yoga teacher and was able to live like a monk, embracing the yogic lifestyle.

What I discovered was that my body needed nourishing and I didn’t need to verbally process or understand the sensations in my body in order to provide that nourishment. I could use movement and breathwork to simply become curious about my internal world. I found that the more curious I became about what I was feeling inside, the more capacity I had to tolerate a wider range of emotions and sensations that felt less tolerable to me prior.
